Benevolent Dictatorship?

Fire - going through back threads in the Atheists forum, I noticed your call for enforced birth control. (An atheistic "amen" to that, *lol*....) If only it were possible to both prevent most births *and* ensure what kiddies do come about aren't infected by the religion-virus, eh? ;)

Here's for government via benevolent dictatorship!

Yes, I think I would make a grand facist dictator... then I'd always get my way! *grin*

Honestly I don't care if others wish to have religion as long as they NEVER try to enforce it on me or others. I cannot understand why that is such a hard concept for the overly religious to get through their thick skulls...

Nor do I care if other people wish to breed, as long as they WANT their children and actually take care of the little darlings. And of course not expect me to want anything to do with them. ;)

I've said in the past that people can (or, at least, should) have it one of two ways:

      1) The government helps you, but it gets a say in dictating the maximum number of children you can have, etc.

      2) You can have as many kids as you want and raise them however you want - but the government will *not*, in any way, lend a hand to save you.

I saw something on a local news channel a few years back where they were interviewing this guy about his family and he proudly told the reporters that he had fathered 20 children by several different women and made sure to spend quality time with each of them. Oh yeah, and he was also on wellfare, as were all his kids and their moms. The news program somehow was trying to make this out as a Good Thing (what an amazing father or some dumbass thing). I was almost physically ill. I really wish I could dictate where my tax dollars went. I would give none to those on wellfare with families and put most of it into education, especially sex ed.

I think a #1 rule should be that if you cannot afford finacially and mentally your children then you should not be allowed to have them. What... have a kid while on wellfare? Well then kid goes up for adoption and you get fixed... paid for by the state. If, at a future point you can prove that you're mentally and financially stable to have that kid and/or get the sterlization proceedure reversed... then good for you, here's your kid(s) back.

I would hate to give that kind of control to our current government though.

I've proposed your rule before, with the following additions:

          1) If you're even found *pregnant* while on welfare, you're forced to have an abortion; if it's mid-to-late-term, you're also sterilized (as this assumes you intended to give birth, rather than that you haven't gotten around to an abortion yet).

          2) If you're caught pregnant mid-to-late-term or if you actually manage to give birth, then yes... you lose your children. Furthermore, you go to jail.

          3) Abortion should be a government funded service. The costs would be far outweighed by the benefits of not having to provide extra social support services for extra children/adults down the road.

I think some people in miserable financial straits have a baby to, you know, cheer themselves up. Getting pregnant sure don't cost much! But I wouldn't have it automatically taken away or put them out in the cold. Remember, punishment doesn't work, but training does: free contraception, and good schools so hopefully their kids won't grow up to be as big losers as them.
I think the Christian right sees sex as a sin and having a baby as the punishment, like, if you had fun it has to have been for what sex was made for: making more Christians of course! And you've got to pay for eternity, (well, 18 years anyway). Too bad this belief affects so much of this country.
