So I guess it comes down to the definition of atheism. I don't believe that there is a superior being somewhere, that created heaven and earth. But at the same time, I don't believe that we can see all that exists. There's a lot out there that we don't see or understand.

I definitely believe in psychic abilities and they don't mean there is a supreme being. The brain is still a complete mystery to us. I also believe in ghosts but I don't believe in a god/goddess/flying spaghetti monster.

If it happened only once, I would also call it a coincidence, but there were many other instances. Like you, I tried to explain it away, but it was often difficult. I think the difference between me and the religious people is that I don't claim to understand it.

Well, yesterday I played poker with some friends and i wanted to win. Then at some point I had a "full hand", later won the evening and don understand how I did that. So there must be something out there??????????????????? We should not take pure coincidences as a sign of anything, as do the religious, the esoteric and a bunch of other idiots who cannot accept that the world ain't much sense in itself.

I think we all should admit we don't understand everything. Athiest or not. I know that electricity and gravity are more powerful than I am. They've both gotten the best of me a number of times. I don't believe in any religion, or a supreme being, but I have experienced things that have convinced me that there is something out there. I just don't claim to understand it. I projected my feelings to a loved one, and she received them, and called me on the phone to tell me to knock it off, she was trying to drive.

Hello - you can be an atheist and still believe in powers greater than yourself, such as electrictiy, gravity or the world. I'm pretty convinced of their existence. We just don't believe that these forces have a personal interest in our affairs and well-being. You can be an atheist and admit you don't understand everything. I think that humility is important, or we could become extremist and arrogant - like the worst of religious people.

I just ran across this tribe, and it looks like it might not be very active any more. But I decided to join anyway, and ask you all a question. And I will abide by the majority of your answers. I am definitely, no question, for sure, child free. I made that decision when I was in my teens, and have now been shooting blanks for 31 years. I also used to be an athiest. Completely. Now, in the past few years, I have seen some things that tell me without a doubt that there is something out there that I don't understand. I don't believe it's Jesus, or any other diety promoted by mainstream religions. But things happened to me that were unexplainable other than there being something out there. So am I an athiest, or at least enough of one to participate here? I read all the posts here, and you seem like an interesting group of people.
